Scottish Resources Awards

The Awards Dinner is a wonderful climax to the conference.Taking place on Thursday 3 October, the evening is dedicated to recognising the exceptional achievements of organisations and individuals striving for a zero waste society.

The categories have been designed to reflect the widening sustainability agenda faced by all sectors. They offer an opportunity for the public, private and community sector to gain national recognition for the advances they have played a significant role in.

2012 saw the dinner was hosted by TV presenter Dougie Donnelly, and was attended by more than 300 people. The guest list included leading figures from local authorities, regulators and private/ public sector organisations.

Excellence in Resource Management Award 2013

This award showcases excellence in any aspect of sustainable resource management and recognises achievements across the full spectrum of the recycling and resources sector. Entrants must be operating in Scotland but applications are invited from any organisation, large or small, from the public, private or community sectors who are achieving significant results in sustainable resource management. 

This award is very much about going beyond a basic level of environmental appreciation and statutory action. Innovation, passion for a greener Scotland, focus on sustainable economic growth and protection of our resources should be at the heart of applications.

Entrants must complete an application form including a summary of up to 1000 words about of how they achieved their success and the range of benefits it has had.

Entries should be mainly based on the period April 2012 to July 2013. However, relevant material can be submitted for work prior to April 2012 and for the months after July 2013 to show how successes developed are continuing.

To reflect the wide range of industries represented by these awards, our panel of judges is made up of key figures from the recycling and resource sector, all with the extensive experience and broad  knowledge required for assessing entries.

There will be 3 Awards in this category. The judging criteria in this category will be such that it will enable small, medium, and large organisations to compete on an equal basis.

Best Partnership Initiative Award

This award will recognise a partnership of skills in terms of promotion and operations achieving the successful delivery of recycling and exemplary resource efficiency practice. Entrants should demonstrate how both partners have worked together to ensure a high standard of service delivery and it is expected that these would have gone beyond the normal contractual minimum. This category is open to partnerships across more than one organisation and contractor.

Entries are welcome from local authorities, companies, public and private organisations and community groups.

Entrants must submit a summary of up to 1000 words of how they achieved their success.  All entries should be based on the period April 2012 – July 2013.

 A panel of judges with a wide range of experience in the recycling and resource sector will be chosen to ensure there is a variety of knowledge available for assessing entries.

Outstanding Contribution Award – The Peoples Choice Award

This is a peer-nominated award on behalf of an individual. Do you know somebody within the resource sector that deserves recognition for their efforts over the past year? Why not nominate an employee, colleague or friend who go the extra mile in their job and have made a visible difference to resource efficiency within the resource management industry?

Just submit a short paragraph on why you think this person deserves to win.

The winner of this category is voted by people from all sectors of the community via an online vote.

Young Recycler of the Year Award

This award will recognise an outstanding young person’s contribution towards a resource efficient, zero waste society. The winning applicant will stand out as someone who has visibly made a real difference to resource management in their local area, or on a regional or national project.

Applicants can be based/employed in a private company, a public organisation, an educational institute or a community group. 

Entries can come from individuals or be nominated by colleagues or other parties.

Entrants must submit a summary of up to 1000 words of how they achieved their success.  All entries should be based on the period April 2012 – July 2013.

Applicants or nominations must be for people aged 35 years or under. 

The winner of this category is voted by people from all sectors of the community via an online vote

All shortlisted entrants will be informed after the closing date of 30 August and invited to the Awards Ceremony on Thursday 3 October at the Glasgow Hilton, where the winners will be announced.
